LeydenJar Technologies is scaling rapidly and while doing so we are looking for an Electrolyte Scientist to join us in our mission to boost battery technology.

The role
LeydenJar Technologies has a mission to deliver a solution, that is a package of technologies instead of single technology, to the lithium-ion battery industry. You will be responsible for developing battery cell technologies as an Electrolyte Scientist together with the PECVD technology development team. At an exciting start-up company, you will work in a dynamic and vigorous environment together with your colleagues who are commited to learning from mistakes and taking big innovative steps forward every day and week. You will be working with battery team of brilliant, ambitious, international and diverse scientists and will report to the Principal Researcher.

You will be working on the following:

  • Development of carbonate-based electrolytes using your knowledge of the properties and benefits of various salts, solvents and additives.
  • Development of new classes of non-carbonate-based electrolytes.
  • Development of new electrolyte compositions targetted at different requirements such as long cycle life, high rate performance, low/high temperature performance, high safety etc.
  • Characterization of electrolyte properties - voltage window, viscosity, conductivity, SEI etc.
  • Cell failure mechanism analysis as influenced by electrolyte composition.
  • Cell building/filling/degassing process optimization for new electrolytes.
  • IP creation for new electrolytes applicable to LJT 100% silicon anodes.

Job requirements

About you

  • Thorough understanding of state-of-the-art lithium ion electrolytes and design criteria for silicon anodes.
  • Good understanding of SEI - mechanisms of electrolyte reaction/decomposition and relevant instrumental analysis techniques to probe the SEI.
  • Experience in characterizing electrolyte compositions by CV, conductivity measurements, viscosity measurements, flash points etc.
  • Experience in using EIS to characterise impact of electrolyte on various components of cell resistance.
  • Experience in analysing SEI layer composition/growth, resistance evolution, and electrochemical dynamics.
  • Experience with electrolyte design for silicon anodes or lithium anodes is a plus.
  • Education: MSc or PhD
  • Fluent English.
