We are looking for an enthusiastic Materials Science Intern to join our innovative and ambitious organization.
About LeydenJar
LeydenJar is a high-tech company, developing pure silicone anodes for a lithium-ion battery that will change the world. We are proud that, here at LeydenJar, we:
- boost Li-ion battery energy density by 70% by using 10x thinner anodes
- improved cycle life to >450
- achieved fast charging to 60% in under 10 min!
We are currently still in an R&D phase, but we are ready to start the actual production of anode foil. LeydenJar Plant One will open in 2026.
About the job
As a Materials Science Intern in the Si R&D Team, you will be responsible for analyzing the surfaces of silicon anodes to enhance the cycle life of 100% silicon-based anodes. You will collaborate closely with Material Scientists and Battery Scientists to understand the implications of your analyses. You will report directly to the Materials Scientist and the Head of Si R&D.
Your primary location can be in Leiden and it is acceptable to work remotely for one day a week. The duration of the internship would be a minimum of 3/6 months and must be required by your university.
Potential projects may involve utilizing surface and morphology characterization methods, conducting image analysis, performing data analysis, and preparing detailed reports.
Job requirements
About you:
- You are currently in the process of completing your Bachelor’s or Master’s studies in the Netherlands and are required to complete an internship as part of your studies.
- You have or wiling to learn hands-on experiences on sophisticated lab equipment or have a strong interest in material characterization methods
- You have a strong drive to learn
- You have fluent English reading and writing skills.
- You have a strong sense of curiosity and enjoy identifying the root cause of problems.
- Bonus points for interest in the energy transition and novel battery technologies.
