About LeydenJar

LeydenJar is a high-tech company, developing pure silicon anodes for a lithium-ion battery that will change the world. We are proud that, here at LeydenJar, we:

  • boost Li-ion battery energy density by 70% by using 10x thinner anodes

  • achieved fast charging to 60% in under 10 min!

We are currently still in an R&D phase, but we are ready to start the actual production of anode foil. LeydenJar Plant One will open in 2026.


Your mission

As a Materials Scientist/Engineer, you will be responsible for designing experiments on our PECVD production tool to develop new morphologies in Leyden-Jar’s Si anodes, and understanding and correlating the morphology parameters to the battery performance. You will be working in the Si Research and Development Team supporting in materials characterization, finding critical to quality parameters, and developing new processes enabling high-performance Si anodes. It is expected that you have good knowledge of thin-film characterization methods, PECVD processes and can communicate your findings to the international team of LeydenJar.

Your primary location will be Eindhoven, but you will also be supporting Leiden location. You are willing to travel on incidental base.

You report to the Head of Si Research and Development and your skills will complement dynamic team of Materials & Data Scientists and Engineers. You will be working in a dynamic scale-up environment as part of an international, ambitious and diverse team that is determined to make a better world with cleaner energy. You will gain valuable, on-the-job experience in a scale-up multi-national company, where no day is ever the same.

In this versatile role for lots of aspects, you will have a chance to develop yourself by being leading and involved in the various projects of this quickly growing company.


You will be working on:

- Designing and executing experiments on our PECVD tools towards new Si morphologies.

- Supporting in the development of new metal/alloy foils with external partners.

- Thin film characterizations on Si anodes using in-house and external facilities.

- Assist in data analysis, in coordination with other team members and data scientists.

- Developing new processes on Si anodes after deposition.

- Developing PECVD processes to grow Si anodes with process modelling and simulation.

- Contributing towards IP generation of the company.

Job requirements

Who are you? 

- Medior level or higher, 3+ years of relevant experience in process/metal/battery industry.

- Background in metallurgy, materials science, or applied physics (BSc or higher).

- Fluent in English language.

- Experience in PECVD processes and/or Thin Film Characterization and/or Metallurgy is a plus.

- Knowledge of metals and alloys is a plus.

- Experience in anode manufacturing is a plus.

- Hands-on attitude, with affinity for data analysis, documentation, and presentation.

- You are able to multi-task and work independently in a fast-paced environment and act with a sense of urgency.

- You show initiative on improvement projects and can lead such projects.

- Experience with certification projects is a pre, especially ISO9001/ISO14001/IATF16949.

- You communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
